Joint Bachelor's Education Program of Chemical Engineering and Technology Program

I. Overview of the Major

This program (Approval No.: MOE21GRA20232330N), established in collaboration between the University of Patras (UP) and Liaoning University of Technology (LUT), is based on the model undergraduate program in Chemical Engineering and Technology at both institutions. Enrollment began in 2023, with an annual intake of 120 students. The program is designed to cultivate internationally-oriented, comprehensive technological talents who align with the evolving demands of the chemical industry. Graduates will possess a strong foundation in theoretical knowledge and practical skills, a broad international perspective, exceptional cross-cultural communication abilities, and the capacity to engage in process design, technology development, and management within the chemical and related industries.

The program is part of the national enrollment plan for general higher education (Major code: 081301H) and offers an undergraduate-level education. With a focus on cultivating international talent, it adopts a "4+0" model, wherein high-caliber faculty from UP and LUT jointly deliver courses to develop a robust international curriculum system. This allows students to access UP's high-quality teaching resources without the need to study abroad. Upon meeting the academic requirements, students will earn both an undergraduate diploma and a bachelor's degree from Liaoning University of Technology, as well as a bachelor's degree from the University of Patras.

II. Introduction of the University of Patras

Established in 1964, the University of Patras is a prestigious Greek public university consistently ranked among the top 10 universities in Greece. It comprises 7 faculties, 31 departments, and offers 36 undergraduate programs, 57 master’s programs, and 30 doctoral programs, serving a student body of over 30,000. The university is accredited under the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG) for Quality Assurance in Higher Education.

The Department of Chemical Engineering, part of the Faculty of Engineering, was founded in 1977 and gained approval to confer Ph.D. degrees in 1994. In the QS World University Rankings for Chemical Engineering, the University of Patras was ranked 251-300 in 2023, reflecting its academic excellence and global recognition in the field.

III. Rationale for Major Selection

The program is designed to enroll 120 students, who will be concurrently registered at both Chinese and international universities.
